A Portrait of Compassion: Celebrating 35 Years of Les Bourgs Hospice

A new exhibition at Guernsey Museum is shining a light on the people whose compassion has quietly transformed countless lives. Opening during Les Bourgs Hospice's 35th anniversary year, Here for Life is both a celebration and a reflection honouring not only the hospice's remarkable legacy, but also the extraordinary community of people who have made it possible.

Created in partnership with Les Bourgs Hospice and Guernsey Museum, the exhibition features more than 100 portraits by MAP6 photographer Aaron Yeandle. Together, the images tell a story that goes far beyond the walls of the hospice itself. They introduce us to the nurses, carers, volunteers, fundraisers, staff and supporters whose dedication has provided comfort, dignity and care to generations of islanders. Aaron's photography invites visitors to look beyond the role of those pictured and connect with the individual. At its heart, Here for Life challenges perceptions of hospice care. It reminds us that while end of life care is often associated with loss, it is equally about compassion, connection and living well. The exhibition celebrates the countless acts of kindness, both seen and unseen, that have shaped Les Bourgs Hospice over the past three and a half decades.

Alongside the portraits, visitors can explore the hospice's journey over the last 35 years, discovering the many roles involved in delivering specialist palliative care, reading personal stories of dedication and resilience, and gaining a greater appreciation of the volunteers and fundraisers whose support continues to sustain the charity's work. Whether you have a personal connection to Les Bourgs Hospice or are discovering its work for the first time, Here for Life offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of one of Guernsey's most valued charities and a heartfelt tribute to the people who are there for others when it matters most.
